Assisted Living with 24/7 Care in Saint Paul: What to Expect

Assisted Living with 24/7 Care in Saint Paul

What does 24/7 senior care actually look like, day to day, for my family members?

At Empower Center Care, we hear that question from every family we meet. This guide is designed to answer it honestly and completely. We will walk you through what 24/7 care means in practice, what a typical day looks like for our residents, who this level of care is right for, and what sets our elderly care in St. Paul apart from other communities.

What Does 24/7 Senior Care Actually Mean?

Not all 24/7 senior care is created equal. Some communities use the phrase to mean there is a single staff member on call overnight. Others mean a nurse is reachable by phone but not physically present. At Empower Center Care, 24/7 care means exactly what it sounds like: trained, compassionate care staff are on-site, in the building, every hour of every day.

Understanding what care is provided in assisted living starts with knowing that your loved one has access to support at any moment, not just during business hours. Here is what that includes at Empower Center Care:

Around-the-Clock Essentials

Who Needs 24/7 Senior Care?

Not every older adult needs around-the-clock support, and not every family situation calls for it. But there are certain profiles where 24/7 care is not just helpful, it is essential for safety, health, and quality of life.

Your Loved One May Need 24/7 Care If They:

This Is Also for the Family Caregiver

If you are the person providing care right now, and you are exhausted, anxious, losing sleep, or sacrificing your own health, 24/7 senior care is not just for your loved one. It is for you, too. Handing off daily care to a trusted team does not mean you love them less. It means you are making sure they get consistent, professional support while you get to be their family member again, not their caregiver.

How 24/7 Care Works: A Day in the Life at Empower Center Care

The best way to understand what to expect is to walk through what a typical day looks like for a resident in our community. Every resident’s schedule is personalized, but here is a general picture of how our care team shows up from morning to night:

7:00 AM: Morning Routine

A caregiver helps your loved one with personal care based on their preferences: assistance with bathing, grooming, dressing, or simply a friendly good-morning check-in for residents who are more independent. Medications are administered on schedule.

8:00 AM: Breakfast

A fresh, home-cooked breakfast is served in our dining room. Staff are present to assist residents who need help with eating or mobility. It is also a social time where residents connect with their neighbors.

9:30 AM: Morning Activities and Wellness Checks

The day’s programming begins: exercise classes or time in the sunroom. Meanwhile, our nursing team conducts morning wellness checks to monitor health, comfort, and any changes from the day before.

12:00 PM: Lunch

A second home-cooked meal is served fresh on-site. Our team assists residents as needed and uses mealtime as another opportunity to check in on how each person is feeling.

1:30 PM: Activity

Some residents rest, some enjoy the garden, some participate in afternoon programming like  arts and crafts, bingo, beading, hand coordination games, or cultural celebrations. Personal care support is available throughout.

5:00 PM: Dinner

The third home-cooked meal of the day is served. Families are welcome to join for dinner. Our dining room is one of the places where community happens most naturally.

7:00 PM: Evening Routine

Caregivers assist with evening personal care: changing into sleepwear, medication administration, and getting settled for the night. Our team follows each resident’s preferred routine.

Overnight: Night Support

Staff are awake and on-site through the night. If a resident presses their emergency call button, needs help getting to the bathroom, or simply cannot sleep and wants someone to talk to, our team is right there. There are no gaps in coverage.

This is what 24/7 care looks like at Empower Center Care. Not a checklist, not a schedule posted on a wall, but a living, breathing rhythm of support built around each resident’s needs and preferences.

When Is It Time to Move from Home Care to 24/7 Assisted Living?

Many families try home care, family caregiving, or part-time aides before considering assisted living. Those are valid steps. But there comes a point where the signs it’s time for assisted living with full-time support become hard to ignore. Here is how to tell the difference between “we can manage this” and “we need more help.”

It May Be Time for 24/7 Care If:

If the second list sounds more like your reality, 24/7 senior care in an assisted living community is likely the safest and most sustainable next step. For a deeper look at warning signs, read our full guide: 10 Signs Your Elderly Parent Needs Help.
